| Does Your DJ Require the MCPS-PRS ProDub Licence? |
|
All DJs (based in
the UK and Channel Islands) who transfer their music
collection from vinyl or CD to MP3 or other digital format
must hold a valid ProDub licence.
The ProDub licence is managed by the MCPS-PRS Alliance (Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society and Performing Rights Society). This non-profit organisation is responsible for the payment of royalties to writers, composers and music publishers. Before booking a mobile disco, you should check with your DJ to ensure they are properly licenced. Simply ask the following questions: Q. What format is your music stored in? All DJs who have a ProDub licence are issued with a certificate from the MCPS-PRS Alliance (ours is available to download from the right hand side of this page). This should be made available to you, on request. Members of the public can also validate a DJs membership by entering their DJs surname in the search box via the MCPS-PRS web site. As part of a venue's own public performance licence, they will be required to verify if your DJ requires a ProDub licence and if so, actually holds one. If your DJ doesn't hold the necessary proof, they could be prevented from setting-up, thus ruining your event. |
I have been in the karaoke and disco business since 1990, being part of
the first company to introduce karaoke to the UK.
Prior to venturing out as the first female karaoke presenter in Southern
England, I spent some time as a professional entertainer working on
cruise ships, clubs hotels and various venues as one half of a female
singing duo ‘Scene 2’.
I couldn’t think of a better step forward after being a cabaret singer
than karaoke. I love
to sing, i love to hear people sing, so it was an obvious choice!
When karaoke first “took off”
I would travel up and down the country every week, as karaoke
was very new and exciting.
Since
those heady days, I now operate in the South Coast exclusively.
My
song list is one of the most up to date and assorted in the area - the
singers tell me! I think it’s very important to change and adapt with
the times, and I am always updating all elements of the evening to make
sure everyone has a really good night.
Because I love my work, i have always been keen to listen to new ideas, and I spend most of my spare time seeking out new music at live gigs, festivals and through the internet and introduce this to the public through my DJ work offering a slightly more alternative karaoke show.
Ian has been a karaoke presenter & DJ for 12 years, and in that time has worked in many venues (large to very, very small!) both locally and across the UK. With his friendly and approachable manner, and always up to date selections of both music and karaoke tracks he has always proved popular.
Along with his experience and personality, he also brings the added
bonus of being the first DJ in the area to incorporate a wide selection
of music videos which add a special touch to his shows.
As well as being up to date, he is also proud to boast music and karaoke
track list spanning from the 1930’s all the way to now, with an
estimated 20,000 karaoke tracks and
38,000 music
& video
tracks a good time is
guaranteed no matter the occasion or age group!
From weddings to children’s parties, you name it he’s done it!
In 5 star hotels and cruise liners to marquees in back gardens,
in Ian you get a fun-loving, adaptable, but always professional
presenter.
